the 2007 daytona five hundred

(to the song “life is a highway” by joe cochrane)

david gilliland sat upon the pole

the sky was clear, but the track was cold

five crew chiefs watched the race at home

waltrip got his camry in the show

boris spun his ford but kept it clean

hamlin cried out, “who’s your daddy?”

gordon’s car kept on kissing the wall

kurt busch blocked smoke, but that’s not all:

stewart broke away

slight kurt contact was made

they crashed and later that day:

earl, harley j.

martin had it, then bad luck:

the wide-open high lane

harvick tried it and it stuck

fantasy picks were all trouble bound

johnson got loose and he spun around

caught up four cars, including hamlin

blaney’s pit road run got schrader pinned

then mcmurray raced up into the fight

got wrecked by kenseth, boy that’s not right

though the field tried to dice and swerve

it took out rudd, truex, and dale junior

green flag, two laps to go

and kyle spun with matt, oh no!

field wrecked and clint bowyer slid

on his roof, but he finished!

earl, harley j.

martin had it, then bad luck:

the wide-open high lane

harvick tried it and it stuck

earl, harley j.

martin had it, then bad luck:

the wide-open high lane

harvick tried it and it stuck

it seemed a big joke before the race arrived:

a ronald mcdonald photo smoke had personally signed

oh

(instrumental)

green flag with two laps to go

and kyle spun with matt, oh no!

field wrecked and clint bowyer slid

on his roof, but he finished!

earl, harley j.

martin had it, then bad luck:

the wide-open high lane

harvick tried it and it stuck

earl, harley j.

martin had it, then bad luck:

the wide-open high lane

harvick tried it and it stuck

the wide-open high lane

harvick tried it and it stuck—
